Wednesday, Jan 7th, Day 1

After being moved to our room (we opted to pay extra for a private room which was a great decision) I slept the deepest 2-hour sleep of my life! I awoke feeling guilty when I realized I hadn't been paying attention to Luca - who was doing his own deep sleep at the time! How quickly my senses were honed to his every movement. Nature has thought of everything! The nursing staff at St Mary's hospital were amazing. During the first night together the nurses helped me to start breast feeding. St Mary's is a bottle-free hospital, you must breast feed. If you have no milk, your baby is fed tiny amounts of formula from a cup - just lean him back and pour it into his mouth one drop at a time! Their stomach's are only the size of a chick pea to start with anyway. Fortunately I have an over-abundance of milk and could have fed the entire ward! The lactation consultant thought I was pretty exceptional!!! In the morning Luca met the hospital pediatrician and seemed to be doing well. Luca's digestive tract got up and running right away with some pretty surprising but totally normal black poo's! In the evening Ma arrived (despite the 30cm snow storm we were recieving) and was able to spend an hour with him before visiting hours closed and she had to return to the condo for the night.
